Coach Tour ~ Sunday 25 August 2019

When TitanCon first started in 2011 the Game of Thrones tourist industry was non-existent and we were the first to offer a coach tour visiting Game of Thrones filming locations around Northern Ireland. It's a different story today and there are several businesses offering daily coach tours. We love the fact that fans have so much choice now, and for anyone staying in Belfast for a few extra days we hope you'll take a tour and see more of this beautiful country.

The TitanCon Coach Tour is different to the others - firstly, we are a not-for-profit organisation and this is reflected in our ticket price. Secondly, our tour is a one-off experience: we only do one coach tour a year and each year is a different route visiting different locations. Lastly, it's a really big fun group of people that attend, and the community makes this tour a truly special experience. It's literally a con on a bus! In previous years we've had Coach Calamity predictions, Fishy Facts, Goat Misidentifications, and Orcish rights! You'll have a great time!

This year we'll be doing without our usual Hog Feast in favour of a post-Tour Feast so all Con goers may attend.

Overview of the 2019 Tour

This year we will start our Tour of Northern Ireland by visiting The spectacular Giant's Causeway, a World Heritage Location. The Giant's Causeway is comprised of some 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption some 50-60 million years ago. Most of the blocks are hexagonal although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high. The Giant's Causeway is owned and managed by the National Trust and is Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction.

While Game of Thrones has not filmed at this famous landmark, many other films and TV shows have been filmed here, including Your Highness and Hellboy II. When arriving at the Visitor Centre, you will have the option of taking a Ten Minute walk along a well made path that is in places steep with several bends down to the causeway itself, or taking the £1 (per journey) shuttle. We strongly advise anyone with walking difficulties to use the shuttle.

Please be aware that the stones of the Giant's Causeway are uneven and slippery. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Weather conditions can change quickly at the coast. More details available on the National Trust website.

TitanCon Coach Tour 2015

Visiting Larrybane Quarry (Renly's Camp in season two) on the TitanCon 2015 Coach Tour.

Our second stop of the day is the scenic Ballintoy Harbour, used many times in several seasons, including as the harbour in Pyke when Theon returns home. This stop requires a fair walk; along well paved roads from where the coaches drop us off; thus it may not be suitable to all mobility levels.

Depending on the weather this may be the ideal location to enjoy lunch. Please note that lunch is not included in this tour and we recommend bringing your own packed lunch with you. There is a cafe in Ballintoy Harbour though seating capacity is around thirty, and they may not cope with excessive demand. Eating on the bus is allowed but please make sure you take all rubbish with you afterwards.

Our final stop of the day will see us return to a TitanCon favourite: Larrybane Quarry, also known as Renly's Car Park. This location has very pretty sea views and was used in Season 2 of Game of Thrones, when Renly made camp and Brienne fought Ser Loras, earning her a place in King Renly's rainbow guard. Although this is the overflow car park of the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge you will not have time to visit that.

After leaving Larrybane Quarry, we will make our journey back to The Hilton Belfast with a quick drop off outside the Europa Bus Station and Great Victoria Street Railway Station for those needing to take a train or bus home on Sunday evening. We will arrive back in Belfast at approximately 17:30.

Please make sure you bring appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather conditions. Be aware that the weather can change quickly at the coast. We will be walking on uneven ground. We strongly recommend bringing a bottle of water, a packed lunch, and a waterproof coat. No food will be provided. Space will be available in the coaches for large bags for those making use of the Europa Bus station drop off.
